This artwork is inspired by the beach and the beautiful seashells found along our shorelines.
When Bek, the owner of Salty Swimwear, reached out and shared her story of pregnancy loss and healing through connecting to Country, in particular the ocean, I immediately connected with her story. Having also experienced pregnancy loss myself, this became a really meaningful piece to create.
Bek asked me to include starfish, as this is how she lovingly refers to the babies she has lost. There is so much heart and soul in this piece. It honours the strength of women… our hearts, spirits, bodies and the journeys we carry.
The meeting places represent the community that surrounds, supports and nurtures us, particularly through difficult seasons of life.
I wanted the artwork to feel bright and colourful, bringing hope and joy while still holding space for its deeper meaning. The detailed seashells reflect the little treasures found along the shoreline and create something you can get lost in.
At its heart, this piece is about love, loss, healing, strength and the connection to Country and community that carries us through.
